1999 Fender American Deluxe Strat
1999 Fender American Deluxe Strat
This thing oozes character. Natural relicing from being 24 years old, and played minimally. The rosewood neck feels superb and sounds phenomenal. The roller nut is not my personal favorite but it makes it super easy to switch back and forth between various gauge strings.
Mods
I wanted to bring out more of the character of the guitar, so I added Lundgren pickups. Johan at Lundgren is the man and we actually had a back and forth over email about a good HSS set that will complement the 50s formvar neck/middle pickups installed here, and he suggested his “nashville split” humbucker in the bridge. I don’t know if they sell it yet publicly, but this bridge pickup is amazing! It has the ROD magnets that traditional single coils do, so it sounds like a beefy single coil. I really like the neck and middle pickups for getting that chime and fatness you hear on songs like Hey joe or hear my train a comin. Through a beefy marshall or Twin reverb this thing just oozes musicality. I personally loved it in my Allen Amps Tone Savor 100w twin reverb with 5881s. It also has a beautiful even tone when playing full barre chords and never loses single note clarity when you need it.
Besides the pickups, the wiring was also upgraded to the 920D HSS 5 way auto-split setup, so in bith the second AND fourth positions you still get that nice strat quack we all love. Pickguard was replaced with a beautiful van dyke harms rosewood guard, and knobs were replaced with black knobs with abalone inlays to match the fretboard inlays. The block was upgraded to the callaham block for added mass and sustain, and the saddles were swapped with gold ones just for an accent. Original hardshell case will be included. I will definitely miss thing thing, its got excellent mojo and deserves to be played! I also had the frets leveled and dressed so they play like new. Nice and shiny and no longer show the individual string indents from 20+ years of playing.
